[livejournal.com profile] rushthatspeaks, I found a sixth-century intaglio ring decorated with a siren, a sphinx, and a hippocamp. I don't know where the hippocamp came from, but otherwise—for obvious reasons—I thought of you.

(Ladies and gentlemen, for all your classical needs: the Etruscans.)

That's gorgeous and makes me wish I wore a ring half so cool.

(Joe and I both lost our wedding rings, which is not as horrifying as it sounds because they each cost $20 and were used mainly for the ceremony. I keep meaning to get myself something new, though I haven't found it yet.)

'Things with feathers'? That is, indeed, a very nice ring.

Love that hippocamp!

(And somehow this is going to tie in to a story about mournful sirens, I just feel it--your story, though; not mine!)

Could you take the three creatures apart and recombine them into a griffin, a mermaid and a centaur?

My husband and I went to the Wing Luke Museum in Seattle today, and I found out there is such a thing as a Cambodian mermaid, derived from Hindu mythology. You have probably heard of Sovan Macha, but I had not.
