I think Kage Baker generally improved as a writer over the course of her career -- with the notable and glaring exception of the Company novels. They seem to me to be, not so much a case of "unedited", as a case of "I plotted this entire series when I was 14, and I'm sticking with that plot." Many (though not all) of the late-written Company short stories and novellas, not being particularly linked to that plot, turned out excellent. And I remember quite liked a totally unrelated fantasy novel she wrote.
